In November, following the 9/11 disaster, the story that started my journey as an author and publisher was written with one goal: to bring Christmas magic to families during that dark time. The Story of Santa’s Beard, first printed on green typing paper, is now in paperback, hardcover, and a bi-lingual edition and has brought Christmas joy through the years to over 55,000 families, filling their holidays with magic and memories.

Each book I have published has an added backstory because I had more to share than could be squeezed into the main story. The backstories emphasize exploring and building a relationship with nature. As the past owner of a nature-based child care center in the mountains of Colorado, I have seen firsthand how the influences of nature embellish a child’s life. Watching a ladybug eat aphids off a thistle plant, learning the names of all the wildflowers, pushing yourself one step at a time to reach an overlook to a beautiful valley below, and sitting quietly with your feet in a cold mountain stream all teach children powerful life-long lessons.

I wish more children would set their devices down and go outdoors. Better yet, they can take their devices and learn about what they find as they exercise their bodies, curiosity, creativity, problem-solving skills, and sense of wonder. And I encourage you to go with them. We all can benefit from a daily dose of nature.

As long as I can hold a pen, I will write stories to help you build stronger families, instill ethics and values in your children, and encourage you to find adventure on the other side of the door while bringing joy, creativity, and imagination into your lives.
